The holiday season is upon us. This can be a time of excitement, magic and sometimes overwhelm. My suggestion to you is to join me in what I am practicing; I am slowing down so I can become aware of what I am feeling, and from this awareness, I can identify and attend to my needs. For instance, I may need to rest, ask for help, let go of my perfectionist streak, and summon compassionate acceptance. This season, ask yourself what is really important. What do you value, and can you operate from this place?
The winter months are a time for drawing in and reflecting. Begin to contemplate your hopes and dreams for the new year. Evoke your imagination!
One of my teachers, Felicia Pavlovic, once shared four questions that I often turn to. They are:

on Authentic Communication!
This is an essential workshop for developing the important skill of Authentic Communication. My co-facilitator, Lisa Messina, and I learned this technique in our Relational Somatic Psychotherapy training. We both maintain that it has changed our lives. Join us!
Communication is Important
Communication is an act of connection. For many people, the act of showing up and speaking their truth can be challenging. It can feel scary to show up as you are and share your feelings and needs with another person. Some people struggle to discern what they are feeling. Many people are accustomed to living in their heads, not their bodies. Authenticity can feel blocked by a belief that we need to appear perfect; like we have it all together. Males in our society are often conditioned to believe that they need to appear strong, competent and capable. Sometimes men have been taught that emotions convey weakness and that feelings are more the domain of women. People wonder if it is safe to show up in a real way. Can we trust the other person? Will we be judged?
In the Authentic Communication Workshop you will begin to identify and understand some of the protective masks you use to keep you safe, and you will begin to see that these masks function as walls, blocking real connection. We all long to be seen, heard, valued and loved.
So, what exactly is Authentic Communication?
Authentic Communication is a deep, heartfelt way of relating that takes place in the present moment. It invites mindful curiosity for what you are experiencing and then the communication of that with another person. This way of communicating is not outcome-oriented; it is process oriented. It is rooted in Satya, one of the ethical principles of yoga, meaning truth. Yoga equips us with the tools to better know ourselves. Our Authentic Communication Workshop will enable you to begin to know yourself in relationship to others.
For instance, do you stay with yourself, or do you tend to loose yourself in relationship? When we summon the courage to speak our truth, regardless of outcome, we feel more aligned with who we are–more spacious and free–and what tends to follow is deeper intimacy and connection with the other person.
This workshop is experiential in nature. Explore techniques like active listening, non-violent communication, partner noting, boundary investigation, and practice steps towards authentically communicating in a safe, supportive environment.
